The overpopulation of unwanted animals is costing Los Angeles taxpayers millions. Take a hard look at the tax dollars / manpower resources it takes to trap/house/kill them. 81,598 animals x $40.00 per year in Los Angeles during fiscal year 2006 equals $3,263,920.
The shelters do their best to place these surplus animals into loving homes. But the number of homeless animals well exceeds the number of available homes.
And each year in Los Angeles, thousands of otherwise loving and healthy companion animals in our communities are euthanized as the only humane solution to this tragic dilemma.
Over the past twenty years, high-volume sterilization has become the accepted response to pet-overpopulation.
In fact, it is the only way to level the playing field between birth rate, adoption rate and the unfortunate necessity to destroy surplus animals.
Clinico has conceived and is now implementing a five year plan that will relieve suffering for countless animals and contribute to the general well-being of the entire community.
With the opening of seven Clinico low cost spay / neuter centers in LA., we believe there is a tremendous opportunity to save lives and dollars.
To reach the goal of a measurable, sustainable reduction in animal shelter deaths, Clinico will offer affordable, high quality spay/neuter services in seven underserved, low-income communities, starting with the Pico Rivera area. While traditional veterinary clinics charge between $100 and $400 to spay or neuter an animal, depending on size and gender, Clinico
charges between $25 and $55 for the same procedures. Animals as young as 8 weeks or as small as 2 pounds are accepted. In addition Clinico plans to provide the option of pet transport for the reported 30% of the population that do not own a car. Each clinic will perform 17,850 surgeries per year.
Los Angeles is rife with neighborhoods in which residents struggle daily to make ends meet. Although there is no evidence to believe that low-income people love their companion animals any less than those with more resources, there is strong evidence to indicate that the majority of litters relinquished to animal shelters come from under-resourced neighborhoods and that these relinquishments are a result of few if any convenient and affordable sterilization options.
Factors that directly affect Clinico’s spay / neuter location selections:
1. High population density.
2. High numbers of animals relinquished to or impounded by local animal shelters.
3. Active community revitalization efforts.
4. Affordable real estate leasing opportunities
5. Limited low-cost spay/neuter options.

Pet Harbor is an easily searchable database of animals currently housed in shelters across the nation, and the only national pet listing site with information updated hourly. Pet Harbor helps animals find their current or new homes, helps the public to find lost or new companions, and helps animal shelters by providing another method of connecting them both. Users are able to search for adoptable pets at local animal shelters based on their description, receive e-mails when pets matching their description arrive at shelters, search for lost animals, and review animals found by individuals.
FixNation's primary mission is to reduce the population of homeless cats by sterilizing as many as possible. In addition, by consistently demonstrating the effectiveness of trap-neuter-return, we seek to bring about changes in public policy so that TNR universally becomes the officially sanctioned and government-funded approach to homeless cat management. Lastly, we support and promote all humane initiatives to bring about the Day of No More Homeless Cats in L.A.
